
Despite steadfast and strengthened steps by the government to shut the border, the undocumented immigrant population has ballooned to as many as 12 million, making up nearly 5 percent of the entire U.S. work force, a new report says.
Updating last year's estimate of 11 million, Jeffrey Passel, a renowned demographer with the Pew Hispanic Center, a nonpartisan Washington think tank, crunched the latest Census Bureau statistics to conclude that between 11.5 and 12 million "unauthorized migrants" have made it to the U.S.
